About Me and My Blog

The mission of this blog is to provide a guide to mainly FREE and inexpensive resources for parents in the San Jacinto Valley, especially science and technology-loving homeschoolers.

All posts are works in progress so check back in couple of months on those sections that interest you.  I am currently revising this blog.   The tasks I want complete are eliminating redundancy and insuring posts are in their proper category.   Pray for me.  This is a lot like filing — incredibly boring, but so so necessary!

The following is a general site map:

About topics include this blog’s purpose and a little about me.

Events topics include community service opportunities and event calendars.  This is where you can find more events than I have had the time to post.

Encouragement topics include inspirational and funny videos and articles.

Guide to Homeschooling topics include schooling advice organized by grade.

Learning Links are resources grouped by academic subject.

My Reference Desk topics include writer’s reference resources, writer’s tech tools, and study music.

Events are posted in chronological order about a month before the event occurs when I have time to be that organized!  As of May 2014, I have posted over 600 different events.  Because I am focused on adding new field trip opportunities, I try to avoid re-posting recurring events.  To find events in chronological order, visit:

To find events by location, visit:

I am currently focused on posting events for grades 5th and up.  If you would like to see what I have for younger grades, than PRAY FOR ME to have more energy because I would love to share those resources also as well.

ABOUT ME

Christians are commanded to know God and let him be known.   Science is about analyzing, comparing and contrasting evidence.    I want my son to understand the world through God’s eyes and be capable of explaining God’s truth to unbelievers in gentleness and respect.  When I post links related to science that are in direct conflict with God’s truth, it is because I use them for lessons in critical thinking.

My homeschool style is whatever helps my son reach his educational goals.  We use library and FREE online resources extensively and attend many field trips.   If you find my blog useful, please subscribe.  Your subscription encourages me to continue blogging.

Happily Learning,

Amirah

“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life,
to mind your own business and
to work with your hands, just as we told you,
so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and
so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

  1. Amen! My son watched the old Flubber movie and told us he wanted to be an inventor. He was four. Sure enough, that is exactly what God’s bundle of gifts points to, social awkwardness and all. Thank God he had our lively home to grow in. I used to teach music in the public schools outside Washington DC; he surely would have been a target for the drugs. Now he is a delightful fellow, a junior in college for engineering.
