AWANA at Home

This is the first year that AWANA is offering an at-home version of their awesome kid-friendly Bible program.  My son completed the AWANA program at Calvary Chapel Hemet through 6th grade.  This year our problem is that the nearest program for 7th-12th graders is further away.  I am very happy with the timing of this new offer.   We are seriously considering continuing AWANA at home.

The following is from AWANA http://awana.org/athome/awana-at-home-statement,default,pg.html:

For years leaders have recognized that kids who do the best in Awana programs have help at home. A recent Awana® alumni study shows not only that, but also over 90 percent of those Awana kids still attend church at least once a week as adults!

To further encourage the partnership between parents and churches, we have taken our proven method of discipleship and created Awana® at Home™ to grow discipleship from its intended roots – the home. The Awana family ministry Awana at Home helps equip churches to encourage parents to step confidently into their God-given role as spiritual leaders. At-home versions of Game Time, Handbook Time and Bible Time come alive for parents to teach and disciple for exciting times with their kids!

Awana at Home gives churches the tools to establish an invaluable partnership with parents, inviting them into a community of encouragement and accountability with fellow parents. Awana at Home then prepares parents for effective, unified discipleship in the home.

New this year, the Awana at Home Director Kit provides everything needed to launch this exciting ministry. Check out the various inspiring family ministry items for both church and home, get an overview of how Awana at Home works and explore our enriching materials for family worship, Bible study and more at http://www.awana.org/athome.

New this year for parents is the Awana at Home Parent Kit. This beautifully packaged home discipleship program is at home on the coffee table, not on a shelf! Twenty-four Awana at Home times provide Game Time and Handbook Time ideas as well as Bible Time devotionals based on favorite audio episodes of Adventures in Odyssey®, included in the kit. And to keep families heading in the right direction we’ve included a tracking chart that will encourage progress through the year.

The Awana at Home section in the Awana Ministry Catalog and the Awana Ministry Catalog Online (store.awana.org) has new products to help your church share God’s plan for family, teach home discipleship techniques and provides resources to help carry it all out.

I’ve never heard of AWANA, but it sounds like a great program. We’ve homeschooled our daughter (now entering 11th grade). My wife and I lead the children and youth programs at our Calvary Chapel (Calvary Gulf Coast, in Biloxi). This might be something we want to consider. God bless.

    • I attend Calvary Chapel in Hemet! AWANA is an awesome program. In the beginning it was my son’s main Language Arts program because we was a struggling reader. He is good at scripture memorization so he got to shine bright in this program. He placed 2nd at Bible Quiz. He also earned a Timothy Award and that is good for scholarship money with some colleges. It is worth about $2,000! Let your friends know about AWANA. It have been around for over 50 years! Check the website for an AWANA club nearest you. If not too far, I think you would enjoy seeing how they ‘do club.’
