Barefoot School Marm (Debbie Merriman) is my teacher of choice when I want to pass off some of the schooling. My son attended her classes last year and will be attending this year.
Classes are held on Fridays, September 7th-May 31st.
Classes are held at Debbie’s home which is off of Columbia, south of Whittier and north of Johnston in Hemet. For more information, call Debbie at 951-791-0885, e-mail Debbie.Merriman@gmail.com or visit http://www.facebook.com/SchoolmarmDeb.
The following is from Debbie:
~Friday Series for Kinder through 2nd Grade Students~
10 to 11am: Reading and Writing for Young Learners
Games, buddy reading and group story writing are some of the ways we make gaining early language arts skills a fun experience and an excellent foundation for a growing love of language.
11am to 12pm: Play and Sing in Spanish
Games, songs, poetry, crafts and movement reflect a natural language acquisition environment. Now is the best time to start learning a second language!
12 to 1pm: Lunch/Recess -Students in classes before and after the lunch hour are welcome to bring a sack lunch for a family style meal followed by recess.
1 to 3pm: Ancient History with Geography, Art, Science, Math and Literature
Children love and remember stories – even ancient ones! This integrated curriculum class will cover ancient world history from the time of early nomads to the end of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D. Using storytelling, maps, and a timeline, we will travel through the centuries, learning about important people and events, ancient inventions, scientific discoveries and artwork from each time period and culture. We will do a related project each week, touching on art, science, math and literature through the course of the year.

Who is the Barefoot Schoolmarm? I’m Debbie Merriman, a homeschooling mom and credentialed teacher. I’ve been in the field of education since 1993, having been a tutor and an elementary school teacher in the public school system, a homeschooling mom to my own children and an alternative learning instructor to both private and charter school students. When I left the public school classroom and became teacher to my own children, I learned that having the freedom to pursue the interests and hands-on learning style of my kids was a great joy and a lot of fun for all of us. My classes offer meaningful, memorable, kid-centered learning in a relaxed and creative home environment.
More about Barefoot Schoolmarm classes: My classes take place in my home in Hemet, and are open to independent, ISP/PSP and charter-based homeschooling families who would like to have their children in enrichment classes. I am currently a service vendor for Dehesa, River Springs and Julian charters, and students enrolled in these schools may apply their EU credits to payment. As a service to charter school families, I will provide monthly class summaries and relevant work samples that can be turned in.
Tuition is charged and paid or billed on a monthly basis (not per class attended), and is determined by the number of class days in a given month. Please request a tuition schedule and calendar for more detail. Classes can be taken individually or as a series; there is a discount rate for students enrolled in a series. Missed classes can be substituted with other classes on the calendar. Also, there are five extra class dates scheduled that can serve as a make-up for classes missed, or simply as an extra art class.
