The Global Day of Play is set for Saturday, October 6th at 8am. At the moment, there is no event in Hemet. Hopefully, that will change as we get to end of September.
Meanwhile, you can view what the Los Angeles Young Maker Group is planning for their event local version of this global event at http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Young-Makers/events/68354282.
The following is from Los Angeles Young Makers:
Please save the date: for the last week of September, we are inviting everyone in the world to build something fun out of cardboard. Build an arcade or funpark in your class/school/kitchen/office, then on October 2nd, we will organize a global Day of Play, by inviting a global community to play at local cardboard events.
We will be creating a new web platform to create/register official events, with some cool contests, prizes, and support curriculum and activity kits (that we’re developing over the summer). We’re making a follow up film to launch the campaign (along with the Caine’s Arcade Imagination Foundation) as well.
The events will also have fundraising tools to help raise funds for the Imagination Foundation to build capacity, and create our first Maker Space for kids (starting in East LA), as well as a more robust web platform that will help find, foster, and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in kids.
It should be super fun!
Please hold the date, and start thinking ahead about doing a Caine’s Arcade Cardboard Challenge Event in your community during September, culminating on Oct 2nd!
You can visit Caine’s Arcade most weekends in the summer. Check his Facebook page before you come. Admission is $2 per person. It is located at 538 North Mission Road, Boyle Heights, CA 90033 (East LA). For more about Caine’s Arcade read frequently asked questions at http://cainesarcade.com/faq.
