Class Name: American Girl: Travel through History

Come make new friends and bring History Alive as we springboard off the American Girl book series!

Class Description:

Travel through history with the classic American Girl books. This class covers two historical girls over the course of 6 weeks (3 weeks per girl). Classes may include: history, components of language arts (literary analysis, elements of a story, the writing process, aspects of creative writing, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension), art projects, character education, social studies (mapping, geography, timeline activities, lapbooking, and biographies), physical education, hands-on activities, such as crafts, time period driven recipes with cooking and/or baking, and even the possibility of a science study. Furthermore, each student will keep a compilation binder that stores all our memories, fun, and learning in one place.

* Each student should have their own copy of the current book we are studying to bring to class. The American Girl books are available at Amazon, Target, Barnes and Noble, and other local retailers. Each book cost approximately $6.95. *Note: Students may pre-read assigned chapters in order to get the most out of each class.

8 to 12 (roughly grades 3-6).

Note: each quarter builds on the previous one and is planned chronologically.

Felicity-bring history alive by traveling back to 1774 for a study of Colonial America.

Kirsten-we are traveling back to 1854 to discover pioneering with Kirsten.

2nd Quarter: 6 weeks duration, once a week for 90 minutes each

Addy-studying the 1864 time period, we will discover the Civil War, slavery, and the Underground Railroad.

Samantha-It’s 1904, the era that marks a period of many changes and inventions galore, come travel with us as we study the turn of America’s new century.

Dates and Time:

I will be offering the American Girl: Travel through History class as follows:

Quarter One: class starts on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 and continues until Tuesday, October 9th, 2012.

Classes will be offered in two time slots: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Quarter Two: class starts on Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 and continues until Tuesday, December 4th, 2012.

Classes will be offered in two time slots: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Price:

$132- $22 a class/ based on six 90-minute classes (currently processing Vendor Packets with a couple of local charter schools).
